In 2015, IP Australia implemented a digital service called Source IP to help Australian businesses discover and access public sector inventions available for licensing/sale and identify potential collaboration opportunities with researchers. 

In 2018, it had become clear that uptake of Source IP had been less than desirable since its inception, and IP Australia needed to determine how the service could be improved to enable the platform to achieve its objectives. To do this, user research was needed to determine the reasons for the lower than anticipated usage rates, and to identify opportunities to enhance the current service offering to better connect with Source IP’s target user groups. 

Pragma was engaged by IP Australia to design and undertake user research to determine how the Source IP platform could be improved to better meet its objective.

Driven by Pragma’s core belief that user research and evidence-based design is fundamental in creating compelling digital products, our consultants employed our proven methodology to deliver IP Australia with practical, actionable findings.

The findings and insights from user research have informed the future design of the Source IP service to better support innovation and growth of Australian businesses while increasing the uptake of leading-edge publicly funded research.
