Enabling world-leading Intellectual Property digital service delivery

IP Australia’s vision is to have a world leading IP system that builds prosperity for Australia. One of the ways the agency is working to achieve this is through delivering efficient IP rights administration via its Transactional Digital Services (TDS) Program.

IP Australia understood that in order to realise its vision to enable world-leading IP digital service delivery, it would need to focus on providing modern, easy to use, efficient and effective services.

In 2016, IP Australia’s Business Investment Committee provided in principle approval for an initial business case for the TDS Program to redevelop its systems, utilising an API led approach. This initial business case contained a set of options and outlined benefits, including high-level costings.

A renewed and innovative approach to developing Australia's digital infrastructure

In 2017, Pragma was engaged to refresh the business case, to deliver detailed business benefits analysis, detailed costings and service conceptualisation based on the previously agreed preferred option.

Our approach centred around delivering a robust business case that would support IP Australia in its goal to provide digital services that are easy and simple to use and align with the expectations of key users.

To do this, we retained the intent of the original business case by further refining the preferred option and service concept. The key enhancements included:

  • Removal of original options to refine and enhance the selected option
  • Update to the program schedule and planning
  • Update to the planned benefits, outputs and outcomes
  • Updated costings and return on investment calculations.

Pragma delivered a business case rich in detail that outlined a renewed and innovative approach to developing IP Australia’s digital infrastructure. The business case laid the foundation for improvements in digital service delivery that will enable IP Australia to meet its objectives now and into the future.

The business case was enthusiastically endorsed by senior executives to enable the program to begin.
